Overview of the vacancy

  • Undertake fee earning work and provide a profitable contribution to the work of the department.
  • To meet fee earning and other KPI targets.
  • Ensure the successful development of the firm in line with the current published Business Plan.
  • Provide transactional support and advice to our short term lender clients.
  • To work on matters introduced by our lender clients, those matters delegated by the senior solicitor team, or introduced through own caseloads and connections.

Purpose of the department

To meet fee earning targets by providing advice to lender and borrower clients and undertaking transactions in principally Real Estate Finance and other secured and unsecured lending matters.

Key tasks, duties and quality standards

  • To assist the department in meeting its fee earning targets by providing advice and transactional assistance to clients of the department as well as other departments of the firm.
  • To conduct purchase matters on behalf of Borrowers and our Lender clients.
  • To support loan management clients in relation to sales, private and auction, and more generally in the day to day management of the loan from purchase to discharge.
  • To assist the department fee earners in the review of term lending transactions.
  • To assist in the development of key Borrower client relationships.
  • To support completion and post completion teams with the management of complex land registration matters.
  • To develop an understanding of credit underwriting, financial services regulation and consumer credit.
  • To educate our clients and assist in internal and external lender and intermediary training programmes and presentations.
  • To work collaboratively across the department and obtain broad understanding of all support team tasks, including file opening/closing, land registration, SDLT and Companies House.
  • To participate in financial control with particular regard to cash-flow control through collection of monies on account and billing procedures.
  • To contribute to departmental and operational improvements, including know-how, tech and innovation.
  • To promote good file management.
  • To utilise the skills of any department Trainee Solicitor and to assist with the Trainee’s training
  • To travel to client meetings both in and outside the UK when required.
  • To ensure compliance with regulatory procedures.
  • To maintain and improve professional knowledge base including attainment of annual CPD points.
  • To assist during the absence of other fee earners.
  • To undertake other duties as from time to time required.

Qualifications

Good honours degree followed by LPC, training contract and PSC; or good honours degree with CILEX to Fellow level, LPC and PSC; and admitted by SRA as a solicitor.

Essential qualities and attributes
  • Solid residential property experience and a sufficient understanding and awareness of all relevant areas of law but recognises the need to develop and learn.
  • Achieves targets set for Solicitor in respect of chargeable hours, fees, recovery rate, lock-up and non-chargeable time.
  • Able to develop a client/referrer base.
  • Appreciates and identifies opportunities to refer work to other departments.
  • Demonstrates a consistent willingness to become involved in activities of the firm outside of those of normal work.
  • Recognises importance of practice development and willingness to become involved.
  • Demonstrates a clear understanding of, and alignment with, the values of the firm.
  • Demonstrates a high level of courtesy and respect in dealing with all colleagues and clients/key business introducers, etc.
Essential skills, knowledge and abilities
  • Sound training.
  • Well developed interpersonal, social and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure.
  • Computer literate with an ability to develop its use in own functional area.
  • Enthusiasm and commitment.
  • A sound knowledge of your responsibilities as a Solicitor including in the following areas:
    • Rules and principles of professional conduct
    • Client care
    • Conflicts of interest
    • Confidentiality
    • Relations with third parties
    • Relations with other solicitors
  • Regulatory and compliance procedures.
Desirable skills, knowledge and abilities

Prior knowledge of Practice Evolve or other practice management systems.
