The primary role of the Risk and Control Manager is to:
- oversee and implement the risk management plan for the department focusing on managing the post completion team.
- the meeting of critical risk dates and maintaining prompt and proactive lender engagement on the registration of titles and forwarding deeds.
- to ensure that all completed matters have a Land Registry application pending, or a priority search in place at all times.
Job description
- To provide transactional support and advice to principally our Lender clients, but also to Borrowers where instructed on a Dual Representation basis.
- To develop an understanding of credit underwriting, financial services regulation and consumer credit.
- To work on matters introduced by our Lender clients, those matters delegated by the Partners, or introduced through own caseloads and connections.
- To work collaboratively across the Department and to have broad experience in all support tasks, including file opening/closing, land registration, SDLT and Companies House.
- To educate and assist in internal and external training programmes and presentations.
Key tasks, duties and quality standards
Working with:
- Deeds Team
- Completions Team
- Fee Earners and one non practicing solicitor, responsible for complex registrations
- Land Registry Customer Account Team.
And all lender clients. To provide overview and support to the team and lender introducers in connection with:
- The timely application of registrations
- The chasing (and pursuit/escalation) of missing deeds from third parties (Borrower Solicitors or redeemed Lenders)
- The reconciliation of the Cancellations (LR Risks) register
- The resubmission and protection of missed or cancelled registrations
- The development of servicer and servicing department relationships, and
- The management and organisation of support personnel in this function
- The exploration of title rectification, litigation and receivership business for lender clients as development of the Loan Management programme.
The support of our loan management profile, loan purchases, redemptions, and variation/extensions.
- To ensure the confidentiality of all the firm’s and clients’ documentation and information.
- To operate the firm’s case management system
- To maintain or improve on the current standards of document presentation
- To consider improvements to the general administrative efficiency of the department.
- Is involved in department and operational improvements, including know-how, tech and innovation
- Is involved in providing internal and external training and presentations to clients and staff
- Undertakes any specific training when required to do so and overall to have a responsibility towards self-development.
- Undertakes other duties as from time to time is required.

Qualifications
GCSE or equivalent B/6 or above in English and Maths.
Essential personal qualities and attributes/skills, knowledge and abilities
- Legal background with some experience in Lending/Property
- Good IT skills including Excel
- Very good accuracy levels
- Demonstrates a positive attitude.
- Communicates professionally with clients, agents and others involved in the conveyancing process, both on the ‘phone and personally
- Provides good customer care, responsiveness and attention to client service
- Provides good levels of initiative and willingness to take on responsibility
- Demonstrates a pro-active approach to work and clients

- Prior knowledge of Practice Evolve or other case management systems
- Knowledge of law/legal practice
