Matthew read law at King’s College London before taking first class honours in the Law Society finals at Guildford in 1993. He qualified in 1995 and became a partner in the firm in 1997. He became Managing Partner in 2013 and successfully led the firm for the permitted maximum 3 consecutive terms until July 2022.
Matthew specialises in commercial property and residential development/site assembly, working closely as a team with Adrian Price, Brooke Posse and Sophie Lord. The team is recommended in The Legal 500, with Matthew himself described as “excellent”.
Notable recent deals include the £25m+ sale of office premises let to IBM, the £200m+ site assembly and mixed use development of premises in London’s West End, and the £150m disposal of a residential development site to a major house builder. Matthew is the former Honorary Secretary and Head of Property Section of the Surrey Law Society, and is also a Member of the Surrey Law Club. He served for many years as a Trustee at Orpheus and is an avid supporter of TWM’s principal partner charity, Surrey Air Ambulance.Â
His other interests include motor racing (he has successfully completed numerous 24 hour races at Germany’s infamous Nurburgring Nordschleife circuit as well as in the UK and America, and currently campaigns a 1960s TVR Griffith), classic cars, motorcycling, and spending time with his three children. He was instrumental in the return to the UK of TVR, and is a non-executive director of the TVR group of companies. He is also honorary legal adviser to Shere Hill Climb.
